Nice write-up Joel. Organizations that don't provide anything of value in their interactions may as well not even open a Twitter/Facebook account. Even so, the number of people who will still "like" a lifeless corporate page while apparently getting nothing back demonstrates the lack of meaning in likes, favs, stars, etc. Or possibly this just shows how deeply brands and marketing have been embedded in our identities. depends on which way my cynicism is blowing.

The best use of QR codes I've interacted with so far has simply been contact information which is automatically enetered into my smartphone as a new contact. If someone where to put that on a business card(I am)it will allow others to save time and effort. Similar simplistic ideas are in my opinion the only true valu of the QR code.

I never knew that Santa tracker started with a wrong number! Who would have thought it would turn into what it is today. Great story!

I think that's really the crux of my thinking. I really like it and I think it offers a lot of features (and does quite a few things better) than other social media platforms without a lot of the noise (like Farmville updates). However, it's hard to tell until more people start using it. I think for many people it will be just another platform, or another way to take up your time, rather than "the" platform. Personally, I don't see it taking away me away from Twitter any time soon, but it will take away from Tumblr and Facebook--especially as more of those people migrate. Remember too, that better doesn't always mean people will change and despite some great features, people moving to the platform will really determine if it's "better" or just "more" in the long run.

As someone who isn't particularly good at keeping up with social media (I tend to make yearly Facebook updates), my biggest concern is "better" versus "more". Is Google+ better than other outlets, or is it just another one?

I was at a friends house this weekend with a late 50's pink bathroom, and his 80 year old mother brought up the Star Tribune article in the course of conversation (nice photo on the back page BTW).

Talk about the 6 degrees of social networking.

I've made a lot of interesting and weird and awesome connections via social media. But this was quite a lot of steps to get into the Strib! I think it's awesome that so many pink bathroom people have found each other via the Internet.

While househunting in 2006, my husband and I passed up a house in Crystal, MN, with a lovely Pepto-Bismol pink tub, sink, and TOILET! But it had a crummy layout and rental house neighbors. I often wonder if those fixtures are still there and if they're treasured.

Thanks Pam, I really appreciate it. This was a fun opportunity and the story would have been so more of a challenge to develop without the facilitation of social media - such as your blog and Facebook page. One of the most interesting things is social media gives you access to experts around the world in any field at any time. People who are happy to discuss their area of expertise and to share there stories. Of course, you get to experience that every day. Thank you again!
