Effective August 1st 2007, only addresses with a valid primary number (e.g. house number or PO Box number) will be assigned a ZIP + 4® code, which is required for automation discounts. With Lorton Data services no changes are necessary to comply with this requirement.
Lorton Data provides DPV™ codes to identify which addresses will not be eligible for automation discounts. Look for DPV codes on your return files. If you do not see these codes, they can be requested. Call 612-362-0290 or email ncoa@lortondata.com
With the new requirement, only records with a DPV flag of Y, S or D will receive a ZIP + 4 code. Looking at your list today, you will want to examine any records currently receiving a ZIP + 4 code and DPV flag of N. When these records are processed, they will no longer receive a ZIP + 4 code necessary for automation discounts. The number of records with a DPV flag of N represents the impact of the new requirement on your list. Records with a blank DPV flag field, are not currently ZIP + 4 coded. To improve your deliverability of these records, they should also be examined.
