A Federal Notice was released September 28th, 2007 finalizing the new requirement. Starting November 23rd, 2008 all First-Class® mail must be updated within 95 days of the mail date. In a bold move to reduce Undeliverable as Addressed mail, the USPS® is also extending the Move Update requirement to Standard Mail®. Read the Federal Register Notice for complete details. Our NCOALink™ service is a proactive, effecient and cost-effective way to meet the requirement.
Current Requirement
Addresses on all automation rate or presort rate First-Class Mail® must be updated within 185 days before the mailing date with a USPS®-approved method. These methods include:
Appropriate Ancillary Service Endorsement (Address Service Requested, Change Service Requested, Return Service Requested, Temp-Return Service Requested)
Alternative methods may be used only if authorized by the National Customer Support Center.
The update standard applies to each address, not to a specific list or mailing. When an address on a piece in a mailing at another rate is updated with an approved method, the address is considered valid during the following 185 days to meet the update standard. A mailer must certify compliance with the update standard when the corresponding mail is presented to the USPS.
