General FTP Instructions

Sending a file to Lorton Data's FTP site

Exactly how you do this depends on what software you are using, but the basic steps are all the same:

  1. Connect to ftp://ftp.lortondata.com.
  2. Read the readme.txt file for more information.
  3. Change to the incoming directory.
  4. Send the file.
  5. E-mail us and include the filename and your company name. Fax (651-203-8299) or upload detailed processing instructions, including file layout (include an Acknowledgment form for NCOALink jobs). Processing will be delayed if you do not contact us after you transfer your file.

Please use DOS naming conventions (Xxxxxxxx.Yyy) for files you upload. If you do not have e-mail, call with your information.

Note that you will not be able to see your file in the incoming directory after you have sent it; this is a normal security measure to help protect your data--the file is still there, but hidden. However, this means that once you have sent a file, you will not be able to retransfer it using the same filename, because this would overwrite the (hidden) copy of the file you previously sent to the incoming directory. If you need to retransfer a file because your first upload attempt was aborted or the file sent contained errors, you must either rename the file you wish to retransfer or call us so we can remove the unwanted copy of the file from the incoming directory.
